and feedback, because the forces work as a substitute for the g-forces the real race drivers feel but you cannot. Simulation in that the forces mimic reality.

Immersion in making your brain think you are in a real race car. To me FF is all about 3 things that all work in concert: immersion, simulation, and feedback.

I think I have mine currently set at full on GTR Evo and GTR2 but with the strength at 20-30% or so, but use the light setting on rfactor with the strength higher at 50% or so. I’ve gone back and forth on my settings a number of times. I like them myself, but others have raved on the realfeel mod for rfactor. There is also, as you mention, a question of how real the “full” force feedback settings are. Most sim racers want some feedback to help detect the status of traction, but heavy feedback moves the wheel and requires a stronger effort to counter…both of which is counter to the absolutely smooth driving a great hotlap requires. In-car videos show drivers working the wheel hard.īut too much force feedback is counter-productive to good lap times. Driving a real race car can be physically demanding work. I’ve got a note into join Champion Motorsports who runs a fun-series (non-serious) on Sundays.įorce feedback settings are a pretty personal thing.

Right now I’m looking for a online group who races Sunday evenings (central US time). The AI in Evo did much better (but not perfect) in that respect.

I’ve done that before manually with the LMS/ALMS-type mods for rfactor and GTR2, but the AI could not deal with the speed and handling differentials in those games. I also found the settings where you can create your own custom class races, and had a good SP multiclass race last night. Luckily the percentage of idiots is relatively low, and I’ve raced with many many more drivers who would gladly wreck themselves before wrecking other people. A few other times online I’ve gotten tangled with overly agressive drivers. Lap 1 of a 20min race, and that was that. I go to break into the slow T2 and get absolutely nailed from behind, which sent me into the wall hard. I get off to a good start and T1 was uneventful. On Saturday I qualified pole for a 20min race at Brno in an Aston…I was really proud as I have only gotten pole online a couple of times. That said, I have had some bad experiences in MP games. Many servers are running with some combo of the WTCC and GT cars, and it makes good racing for the most part. Now when I race MP, I look for “custom” as the class. All the drivers that night were awesome and went out of thier way to keep things clean. I also had to think way ahead to avoid getting hung behind slow traffic in areas of the track where passing is impossible.

While I was much faster than most of the cars, I had be VERY careful to give the other cars space on the track, especially since they did not have much downforce like a F3000. If you are a fan of the ALMS or Le Mans races…it was exactly like that. I was basically racing 2 other F3000s, there were about 8 cars in a middle group running GT cars, and then there was a slow group running Mini’s. What was great was the race broke into a couple of distinct class races. I picked a F3000, and when I joined the (rather full) server I was up against everything from a Mini to M3s to other F3000s. When I got to the car-selection screen, I had many different choices. I had avoided races like this because I thought custom meant the server was running a mod, but the other day I tried one on a whim.

I kinda stumbled across this feature when I joined a multi-class race in multiplayer.
